Another unique and extraordinary aspect of the Compassionate Leadership Academy is that it is measurable; we will quantify the progress and the impact that this programme will have on your life and your leadership. In partnership with My People Group, and as an integral part of the CLA programme, we will apply best practice research and analytics, providing evidence of the performance impact achieved by the CLA programme and measure the human factors that contribute to high performance cultures. Access to this incredible knowledge allows you to track and measure the impact of the CLA.
So how does it work?
At specific touch points in the compassionate leadership programme - on registration and in Modules 9, 15, 20 & 25 with a final review in Module 26 you will be asked to complete a short online survey looking at four aspects of performance, the results of which will be processed and shared with you almost instantly.
- Firstly, we measure the strength of bonds between you and those you work with - the strength of your relationships. Working with people who are invested in you and who you want to go the extra mile for, increases your chances of success and raises performance all round; it is the basis of commitment.
- Secondly, we want to see how you really feel about the values and culture of your organisation. Do you share the values and behaviours of your peers and your community? Understanding where you, your peers and your organisation are aligned creates a collective brilliance, and understanding the differences can be actively fed into innovation - both positively impact the creation of a sustained high performance culture.
- Then we look at you, your personality. A compassionate leader needs to start from a place of self knowledge. Our simple survey will help you to understand more about yourself, another piece in the jigsaw of you, and will help map your personality to those around you to see how that impacts your performance, in good and bad moments!
- And finally we will use the MyPeople tool to assess your mood throughout the course. How you are feeling on a regular basis. This dynamic mood assessment looks at a more frequent measure of how you feel and helps map your mood to your journey on the compassionate leadership programme and to your performance

If, through this programme, you join the Institute of Leadership & Management then on completion, as well as receiving our certificate of completion, you will also receive their formal completion certificate.
This can be used as part of your ILM Level 5 accreditation and will enable you to upgrade from Study Member to a full Member of the Institute of Leadership and Manangement; you can then add the letters MInstLM after your name.

Manley Hopkinson – Founder & Director
There are a number of strings to Manley’s bow; as an internationally acclaimed and admired inspirational speaker, as a mentor, coach and catalyst for personal, team & organisational transformation, as an accomplished author, and as an Executive Board member and Director.
Manley was schooled on leadership through a mix of practical and academic. He twice served as an Officer in the Royal Navy, re-joining for the first Gulf War and in between was an Inspector in the Royal Hong Kong Marine Police. In 2000, he was selected as a skipper in the BT Global Challenge round the world yacht race, leading a team of volunteers, including novices, for 9 months in a 32,000 mile journey, the “wrong way”! Manley continued his adventures as part of the 3-man team that won the inaugural race to the Magnetic North Pole. Their record time of 10 days and 9 hours still stands.
He founded Manley Inspiration in 1999, a highly regarded consultancy devoted to developing compassionate leadership skills, high performing teams and high performing organisations, working with business, government and community organisations globally. Manley was inspired to create and design CLA to enable a wider audience to engage with compassionate leadership, thus democratising leadership development, and to create a time & cost efficient method to create a coherent whole organisation culture of compassionate leadership – bottom up as well as top down.
Catherine Hopkinson - Director
Catherine is a Business graduate who spent many years working in television advertising and sponsorship. She re-trained as a secondary school teacher (B.Ed.), specialising in Business, ICT and Marketing. Leading a team as a Head of Faculty specialising in alternative curriculum and vocational education. As part of the Senior Management team she devised and delivered staff training and mentored newly qualified teachers. As a mature student she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with the Open University. Catherine runs the business office and financial side of CLA. She is an eternal student with a passion for education, current affairs, travel and adventure and is a trustee of the registered charity – Forca – Strength Against Cancer.
Chris Moon M.B.E - Associate
Chris Moon has tested the limits of human endurance. He avoided certain death by negotiating the release of himself and two colleagues from the grasp of Khmer Rouge guerrillas in Cambodia. He left the British Army to clear landmines for a charity, and subsequently lost an arm and a leg in an explosion. Less than a year later, he completed the London Marathon, and today runs the world’s toughest ultramarathons. Chris knows exactly what it takes to overcome adversity and supposed limitations helping people to step beyond what they thought possible.
Andy Cave - Associate
Andy Cave is one of the greatest mountaineers of his generation and his teams have pioneered some of the most difficult mountain climbs in the world. Andy’s and his team’s story of resourcefulness, resolve and rising above expectation has inspired audiences all over the world. His Leadership workshops and keynote speeches convey the importance of partnership and respect in all that we do and reinforce the need for focus and drive to unlock true potential. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Sheffield for his work in Language & Social identity in Industry. His two books have won six literary awards and been translated into German, Italian & French.
Jacqui Fairbrass – Associate
With a background in the British Army, wide public and private sector experience and a passion for individual development, Jacqui is a highly successful and committed senior leadership coach. Her natural style brings warmth, vitality and attentiveness to her clients; building rapport and trust and enabling them to become the leader they aspire to be. Jacqui is a qualified Master Coach, Systemic Team Coach and NLP practitioner, certified to deliver the Strengths Deployment Inventory (SDI), Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Step 1 and Step 2 and Clarity 4D. Jacqui has worked within government organisations, the emergency services, blue chip companies and SMEs in the defence, housing, banking and communication sectors.
Gwen Stirling Wilkie - Associate
Gwen is a highly regarded facilitator, culture change, and developmental consultant. Her philosophy is of a ‘practical helper’ working alongside you and your teams as you progress towards creating and delivering the positive action you are seeking. Clients love the way she brings her own stories of compassionate leadership to life in the way she works; sharing her lessons of life, leadership and learning during her 25 years of experience in creating places where individuals can thrive and become collectively brilliant. She has held senior level roles in commercial and charitable organisations, has worked as an Executive Director, and is currently a volunteer Board Director of ODN Europe, a membership organisation.
Fedor von Balluseck – Associate - Europe
In a world that is increasingly busy, complex, and distracted finding your path becomes more and more a necessity and a challenge. Fedor likes to help individuals, teams and organisations on this journey. He works by looking both at the business and the human side of things. He leverages a mix of personal experiences in international and diverse settings and combines these with a professional development in Economics (MSc), Strategy (BCG), Marketing & Leadership (Philips) and Coaching (MMS & ICF). The Compassionate Leadership Academy is a fantastic program that helps people and teams on this journey and he is proud to help bring this to the Netherlands. He lives in Haarlem (The Netherlands) and is happily married and has 3 children.
Skillset Ltd. – Platform Design and Administration
SkillSet Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Latitude 91 Ltd., is a specialist provider of eLearning and bespoke training services to the public and private sectors. Its main activities include:
- Design and development of effective and engaging eLearning content.
- Configuration, customisation, hosting and ongoing support of learning management systems.
- User adoption services related to the introduction of new IT applications and associated processes, including training and manuals.
As part of an ongoing commitment to quality and security, SkillSet is certified to ISO9001 and IS027001 standards. In 2017 the group gained Amazon Web Services Consulting Partner status. SkillSet have worked with Manley to design and implement the Compassionate Leadership Academy platform, the programme modules and the learning activities.
Face T.V. – Video, Graphics and Marketing Partner
Face is a video production agency launched in 1994, involved in all aspects of the development, production, distribution and transmission of television programmes, commercials and corporate videos.
All of the creative and production resources are in-house, providing a one-stop shop for our wide-ranging client base. From scripting, through shooting, to editing, animation/graphics and distribution, we have all bases covered.
Broadcast television credits include observational documentary series for Channel 5, the Discovery Channel, UKTV and ITV Meridian. In addition to this broadcast work, we’re a very experienced post-production house for infomercial programmes produced for DRTV (Home Shopping) channels on Sky TV and Freeview. We have worked closely with The Compassionate Leadership Academy to create dynamic and engaging content.
